Finnetunet

Finnetunet – Forest Finnish Farm Museum

Finnetunet is located in Grue Finnskog, close to the bridge over the Rotna River, near the entrance to Svullrya when arriving from the west.

The museum was established in 1942, but due to World War II and other circumstances, the practical development of the site did not begin until the 1950s.

All of the buildings at Finnetunet have been moved here from Grue Finnskog and Brandval Finnskog. Together, the museum’s 13 buildings illustrate how a traditional Forest Finnish farm could have looked in earlier times.

Finnetunet is one of the few museums in Scandinavia that presents all three Forest Finnish building types heated with a smoke oven:

  • Smoke cabin (røykstue)

  • Smoke sauna (røykbadstue)

  • Rie (a traditional grain-drying building)

The outdoor museum area is open all year round, while guided tours during the summer season run until August 20.

Outside the regular season, guided tours can be arranged by request.
