Finnskog Days (Finnskogdagene)

Finnskog Days is an annual cultural festival held in Svullrya in Grue, Hedmark, near the border with Sweden. The event was established in 1969 and takes place the second weekend of July each year.

The festival celebrates the traditions and cultural life of Finnskogen, with a special focus on the unique Forest Finnish cultural heritage.

During the event, visitors can experience a wide variety of activities, including:

  • The proclamation of the Republic of Finnskogen

  • The awarding of the Finnskog Prize and the “Finnskogen Thanks” award

  • Exhibitions and concerts

  • Cultural activities and open houses at the Norwegian Forest Finnish Museum

Since 1993, the historical drama “The Play of the Immigrants” by Merete Wiger has been performed during the festival.

The Gottlund March is also arranged in honour of Carl Axel Gottlund, often called the “Apostle of Finnskogen”.

In cooperation with the newspaper Glåmdalen, the music award “Finnskog Artist” has been presented since 1996.

For many years, the Finnish ambassador and spouse have also attended the event as honoured guests.
